Caramel Apples

Ingredients

16 Medium KINGS Ginger Gold or McIntosh Apples
Three 14-Ounce Packages Individually Wrapped Caramels, unwrapped
4-6 Tablespoons Heavy Cream or Kings Organic Milk
Optional: 1 ¼ Teaspoons Vanilla Extract

Assorted Toppings to Roll Dipped Apples in:
  Choose one or more and set out in individual bowls for dipping:
Crushed Oreos
Crushed Graham Crackers
Halloween Sprinkles
Candy Corns
Chopped Nuts, Kings cashews or Kings pecans
Chocolate Chips
M&M’s
Reese’s Pieces
Crushed Heath or Skor Bars or Toffee Bits
Mini Marshmallows
Dried Fruit – Cherries, Cranberries or Kings Raisins
Chopped Up Candy Bars- Snickers, Butterfingers, etc.
Gummy Bears
Granola or Trail Mix
Kosher Salt
Mini Jelly Beans

Preparation

1. Wash, dry and remove the stem from each apple. Press a craft stick into the top. Place apples in the refrigerator or freezer. Butter a baking sheet or individual buttered cupcake liner.
2. Place caramels and milk in a microwave safe bowl and microwave for 2 minutes, stirring once. Allow to cool briefly. This can also be done in a double boiler. Add water in the bottom of the double boiler. Place the caramels and heavy cream over the water in a separate bowl. Place over double boiler. Let them heat up, and stir them gently until they are completely heated and smooth.
3. Pour caramel into a four cup measuring cup. Roll apple quickly in caramel sauce until well coated. Garnish with one or more of the above toppings. Place on prepared to set. Place in freezer for 15 minutes to help set the caramel.
4. Finished apples can be placed in clear cellophane and secured with ribbon for gift giving.
