Natural Dyed Eggs

1 dozen eggs 

2 quarts water

¼ cup white vinegar

Natural Egg Dye

Pink:  4 cups shredded red beets

Dark Blue:  3 cups of crushed blueberries 

Pale Blue: 4 cups shredded red cabbage

Orange:  4 cups onion skins

Yellow:  ¼ cup ground turmeric

Pale Green:  6 cups of raw spinach


Directions for Hard Boiled Eggs:

Gently place eggs into a pot. Cover eggs with water.  Bring water to a rolling boil.  When water boils remove from heat, cover and allow to sit for 15 minutes.  Remove eggs from water and place in an ice bath.

Directions for Natural Dye:

Select a natural dye and place in a pot with water and vinegar. Bring mixture to a boil over a high heat, reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 30 minutes.  Strain dye into a bowl. **If the desired effect is to have pastel toned eggs place in room temperature solution for 30 minutes. If the desired effect is to have deep toned eggs place eggs in hot solution. When solution has cooled, cover and place in refrigerator for 30 minutes or up to overnight.
